About Egypt

What do you know about Egypt? Incredibly beautiful sea, carefree beach holiday and stunning monuments of ancient civilization... Almost everyone knows about this. Are you still thinking about flying to the land of the pyramids on vacation or choosing another direction, or maybe oppositely - your suitcases are already packed and the hotel is booked? It's time to get to know this country a little better.

Where is Egypt geographically located and what is the climate like there?

This sunny country is located on two continents: mostly in Africa and only a small part (Sinai Peninsula) is located in Asia. Huge territory of 1001450 sq. km. mainly falls on the desert (Libyan, Arabian and, of course, the well-known Sahara desert). The main river here is still the Nile, and the green landscapes of the Nile Delta provide a stunning contrast to the desert regions. The official name is the Arab Republic of Egypt (or abbreviated as ARE), the name of the capital is Cairo.

The climate is mainly tropical desert, in the north of the country it is subtropical. On Red Sea coast you can relax and swim in the sea all year round, because the water temperature in the winter months remains comfortable and does not fall below +20-21 degrees Celsius. And the average air temperature is +25-27, but after sunset it usually drops sharply to +15-12 degrees. Often in winter, people choose this destination specifically to attend various historical excursions. In the winter-spring period, short-term sandstorms and winds, and sometimes small amounts of precipitation, are possible. In summer, the air temperature can reach +40, but is quite comfortable due to the low humidity. This is the most ideal time for lovers of sea walks and diving. But the most popular seasons in Egypt are still autumn and spring.

What kind of sea is in Egypt?

The shores of the country of the pyramids are washed by two seas: the Red Sea (the most popular destination among tourists) and the Mediterranean (in the north of the state).

Religion of the Egyptians.

Islam (Sunnites) is the official religion of the Egyptians and has a great influence on the legal structure of this country. The local population is divided by religion into Muslims (90%) and Coptic Christians (10%).

What kind of money is there in Egypt and what should you take with you: euros or dollars or can you pay by card?

The national currency of Egypt is the Egyptian pound (there are 100 piastres in one pound). Currency notes: 1 pound, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 pounds. Since 2023, Egypt has introduced 10 and 20 pounds of a new type; they are noticeably different from the previous ones, but both options are used in circulation. Study the photos of local banknotes if you plan to pay in the country of the pyramids with local pounds. Most places accept dollars, euros, British pounds and cards. But in many chain supermarkets with fixed prices, you can only pay with local pounds or a card. Be careful and do your research on this issue before going out into the city.
